A founding member of Berry & Spence, Gordon has over 30 years of manufacturing and sales experience in the textile and plastics industries.

He has been involved with the industry at a national level for the past 15 years and held the position of chairman of the Plastic Converters Association of South Africa; he remained on their national executive and has just completed a 3 year stint as one of the vice presidents of the Plastic federation of South Africa.

An avid squash player who can be found on the court 4-5 times per week, Gordon competes in both the Western Province normal & masters leagues. He has represented the Province for the past 13 years in the singles & doubles format of the game. Golf is his other passion – continually striving to better his handicap - hates losing to Russell!

Gordon has been married to Sandy for 34 years; they have a son & daughter.

Russell Mackintosh
General Manager

Originally from a Human Resources and administrative background, Russell has worked in the plastics industry since 1994. His early experience was in a sales agency environment with Plastem and Multiflex, before moving to the manufacturing environment in 2000, when he joined the Berry & Spence team. He became a shareholder in the company in 2006.

A keen road runner who has run 13 Two Oceans and 9 Comrades Marathons. He was formerly a member of the UCB’s National Umpiring Panel before retiring from this in 2003. He dabbles in golf when he has time - and loves beating Gordon.

Russell is married to Bev and has a daughter and twin boys

Lionel Bantam
Production Manager

Lionel has been involved in the plastics industry since 1984. He gained his initial experience at Plaschem, before moving to Polyfilm and then to Berry & Spence in 2001. He was promoted to Extrusion Manager in 2004.

Lionel loves the outdoors and is a keen gardener. He is currently building his own fish tanks and has 4 Khoi, which he enjoys watching – he says “there is nothing that stimulates my mind more than watching the behaviour of these colourful fish”

He is married to Annie and has 2 sons.

Jenny Schutte
Sales Coordinator

Jenny joined Berry & Spence in 2007 after thirty years involvement in the banking sector. She brings with her the organizational and systems skills acquired during her time as a customer relations banker at Nedbank. Jenny will ensure that all customer enquiries and orders are handled with the efficiency and care that they deserve.

Has dabbled in the odd bit of road running but hung up her shoes after completing 2 Two Oceans half marathons and one Peninsula half. Keeps promising to go back. She loves creative crafting such as sewing and scrap-booking and has been very involved with Sunday School teaching for a number of years.

Jenny has been married to Peter for 25 years and has a son and two daughters.
